By MIKE "ACE" ADRIAN - For The Valley Free Press BIG BEND, Wis. — On an absolutely beautiful weekend, the Somonauk Blue Stockings traveled to Big Bend, Wis., southwest of Milwaukee to participate in one of the finest vintage base ball festivals in the Midwest, Aug. 21 and 22. The Blues were missing about half of the team due to work, emergency situations and members returning to college. In addition to the Blues, teams participating were the Douglas, Michigan Dutchers, the Indianapolis, Indiana Hoosiers, the Chicago Salmon and the host Milwaukee Cream Cities. On Aug. 8, the Lockport Sleepers arrived at Somonauk’s Community Park looking to avenge an earlier defeat at the hands of the Blues. While a doubleheader had been scheduled, it was decided to play one nine-inning game in the rain.
